CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, effective, non-invasive method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the CranioSacral System.  CranioSacral Therapy is named for the system within the body which is at the core of your central nervous system – the brain and spinal cord (including the tailbone). The CranioSacral system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, 3 layers of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, our practitioner releases restrictions in the CanioSacral System to improve the functioning of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).  The client remains fully clothed during the entire session.

The ANS has two divisions.  Each has motor and sensory components: sympathetic division (fight/flight/freeze) and parasympathetic division (rest/relax/renew).  All organs, vessels, glands, nerves and cells of the ANS and every other part of the body are wrapped in fascia. The craniosacral system  is a specialized container that envelops the fluid and tissues of the brain and spinal cord within three continuous and interrelated layers of fascia. The parasympathetic division is also referred to as the craniosacral division of the ANS because its motor cells originate in the brain stem and sacral portion of the spinal cord.

CranioSacral Therapy supports the body’s innate ability to effect deep healing of physical and emotional blockages. These blockages may impact – in varying degrees – upon systems within the body, including: skeletal, endocrine (hormonal), immune, respiratory, reproductive and digestive.  Blockages are restrictions in the CranioSacral System, resulting from physical or emotional traumas that have not found appropriate release.  CST helps to bolster resistance to disease and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain, including:

  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue Disorders
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries
  • Scoliosis
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
